This Ministry
by Uncle Boumo
The word ministry has its origin from the Greek word ‘diakoneo‘ which means ‘to serve’ – this clearly shows that ministry work is hinged on service.
It involves giving ourselves , our time, talent and resources to bless and help others and spread the faith.
The very definition of ministry shows very clearly that no believer is left without a ministry. It also negates the thought line that you need a title (pastor, bishop, papa, GO, etc) before you can say you’re in ministry. You’re called into ministry the very day you surrender to Christ and even though there are different cadres to the work, by default according to 2 Cor. 5:17-19, every believer has been called into the ministry of reconciliation.
Jesus provides for us the perfect model for ministry work as seen in Matthew 20:28 and we can draw the following truths about ministry from His model.
– The call is from God
it is divinely orchestrated (Luke 1:30&35). It is important to note because the power of the message and the Messenger is birthed from the power if the one has sent you. If God has called us into ministry then we work in His authority.
– The call has a purpose (Luke 1:32-33)
Your purpose and destiny in life are tied to your ministry. So it follows that you can only fulfil destiny when you align with your divine ministry.
– It needs to be discovered and accepted (Luke 4:16-21)
This places a demand for action on you and this sense of responsibility is needed to launch out.
– You need to be intentional and prepared (Luke 4:1-8)
Ministry work isn’t something you do haphazardly or shabbily. It needs to be both qualitative (delivery) and quantitative (coverage) which both require a lot of work.
– You cannot do it without the help of the Holy Spirit (Matt 3:16)
It is the one who sends you on an errand that gives you the details of the assignment. God through is Spirit guides us to achieve success.
– It is time bound which means a time to give account will come (Romans 14:12)
This tells us that there is no to second-guess or for delays. The time is NOW!
– It must not die with you(1 Cor 15:3-8)
The baton must be passed on. Your life must impact others enough to replicate you. Jesus saved the world from sin and passed on the ministry of reconciliation to us all and we must also replicate this.
Have we been as intentional as God requires of us ? Have we been open to the leading and help of the holy spirit of we’ve been doing things own way ? Has your life really been of impact to your cycle ? Have you truly given your all to this course ?
Let’s reflect on these as we put it in perspective in the area of our calling and I pray God gives us the grace to align properly , in Jesus name , Amen.
God bless you
